HCMC Innovative Startup and Entrepreneurship Week 2017

Embassy of Finland in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ministry of Science and Technology and Vietnam-Finland Innovation Partnership Programme (IPP) organised the HCMC Innovation Startup and Entrepreneurship Week 2017 in October 27th and 28th. A Finnish delegation of cities of Helsinki, Tampere and Turku participated in the event’s special theme “Together with Finland”.  

The two-day Together with Finland event provided experiences, examples and solutions from Finnish education, entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem as well as recent smart city development. The presenters represented Finnish city and development organisations, SMEs and higher education institutes from Helsinki, Tampere and Turku. In addition, the SLUSH Global Impact Accelerator was organized during the event.    

The session “Education for the future experiences and solutions from Finland” brought examples of Finnish education system in general, introduced the role of entrepreneurship education in universities, showcased some interesting educational solutions by Finnish SMEs. In the panel discussion “Education for future” new collaboration possibilities and projects were discussed. Mrs Kaisu Paasio, Senior Project Manager at University of Turku introduced the ICTEntr – Supporting Entrepreneurial Development in the field of IT in Vietnamese HEIs as an example of successful collaboration between Vietnam and Finland. The audience found the project and its activities very interesting, as the growing need of entrepreneurial attitude, knowledge and skills has been recognized in the Vietnamese higher education.  

Discussions and future collaboration plans were put further in November 2017, when Vietnamese delegation from Ho Chi Minh City visited Finland. On agenda were entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem development as well as various education upgrade activities. Both parties are looking for collaboration in the near future.
